Square lettered fonts are tried and true for sharp and modern design but if you are looking to add a little flavor to your text look no further then Rubik. Originally designed for the rebranding of the Rubik’s Cube exhibition “Beyond Rubik’s Cube”, this typeface was created in such a way that every letter would fit perfectly in a single cubelet of a Rubik’s Cube.

Rubik is a sans serif heavyweight font with slightly rounded corners. Created by Meir Sadan, Phillip Hubert and Sebastian Fischer as part of the Chrome Cube Lab Project, Rubik has been mainly in the US, and as of this writing is currently used in around 220,000 websites. Rubik boasts 5 weights and also has italics styling. Another plus is having the & symbol as well as the “cent” symbol which is rare for a free font.

The slightly rounded edges make this typeface unique and fun to use while keeping things classy and sharp. So far I haven’t seen Rubik around that much in pop culture or used by large companies so that is a big plus. Being a free font that has both the “&” and “cent” symbols AND 5 weights Rubik is a great choice for any website or design.

FONT RATING A+
BEST USE: ANY AND ALL
BIGGEST FLAW: WHEN USED AT A SMALL SCALE THE ROUNDED EDGES ON HEAVY WEIGHTS CAN LOOK A LITTLE STRANGE
